Tempers flared late in the game between Georgia and Mississippi State after there was a collision at home plate. That led to the benches clearing and a total of 11 players being ejected due to the dust up.

The moment came in the eighth inning with two outs. That’s when Georgia hit a ball to the gap and Dillon Carter tried to score from first on the play. However, the throw beat him and he collided hard with catcher Johnny Long at home plate when he slid. Long took issue with that, standing over him and the benches cleared.

While Mississippi State’s Long stood over Georgia’s Carter and appeared to say something to him while kneeing him in the ribs. The umpire then pulled him away as players came out of their dugouts.

SEC Network’s Peter Burns noted that it took 40 minutes to get everything sorted out. When it was all said and done, 11 players had been tossed from the game.

A complete list of the players ejected was not made available. However, it should be noted that, according to Anthony Dasher , along with Johnny Long, Dakota Jordan , Hunter Hines , Amani Larry, and Logan Kohler did not return to the field for Mississippi State. On Georgia’s side, Fernando Gonzalez , Slate Alford , and Tre Phelps didn’t return to the field either.

Georgia would go on to beat Mississippi State 3-2. The difference in the game ended up being a home run in the top of the ninth inning off the bat of Clayton Chadwick , which gave Georgia a one-run lead.

The two teams will meet again on Sunday afternoon to wrap up their series. That is the last time these two teams are scheduled to meet this season. However, there is still the chance that they could meet in the postseason, depending on how things work out.

Dasher also shared that Georgia head coach Wes Johnson doesn’t expect any of the players ejected from the game to be available on Sunday.

“Everybody who was ejected today, will not be available tomorrow,” Johnson said. “They’ll have a one-game suspension. So, the guys who were ejected will be out tomorrow.”

This comes as the SEC schedule is heating up for both Georgia and Mississippi State. Both teams hold 5-6 conference records and are toward the middle of the pack in their respective divisions. Now is a time for them to make a move toward the top of the standings.
