Three University of Georgia football players were arrested or cited this week for separate driving incidents.
Johnathan Hughley was booked into jail the night of July 9 on charges of failure to maintain lane/improper driving and reckless driving. The charges stem from his arrest by UGA police for his involvement in a single-car crash.
Smael Mondon was jailed the following night on charges of reckless driving and racing after an incident on West Broad Street in which he reportedly drove at least 75 mph in a 40 mph speed zone while allegedly racing UGA teammate Demello Le Jones, who was issued citations.
Hughley is a redshirt freshman offensive lineman, Mondon is a senior linebacker, and Jones is a freshman cornerback.
Mondon’s Dodge Charger displayed a “SMILEY” vanity Georgia tag.
There have been several arrests and driving-related incidents involving UGA players since the January 2023 racing-related deaths of offensive lineman Devin Willock and football program staffer Chandler LeCroy.
