ACC Board of Ed member resigning to run for county commission

Clarke County Board of Education District 2 member Kirrena Gallagher on Thursday announced she is resigning from the board to run for the vacated District 2 county commission seat. Gallagher has served on the board since January 2021. Her term ends Dec. 31.

Gallagher told board member her resignation will be effective as of this Monday.

The District 2 county commission seat has been vacant since the resignation of Mariah Parker on Aug. 31.

Qualified residents residing in BOE District 2 and wanting to serve on the board for the remainder of Gallagher's term can submit a letter of interest, biographical sketch or resume, and up to two signed letters of support to:

Applicants must reside in District 2 and meet the qualifications required by law. All materials must be submitted by mail, in-person, or via email by 4:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6.

Thursday’s board meeting was also the final scheduled meeting for District 5 member Kara Dyckman and District 9 member Tawana Mattox, whose terms expire Dec. 31. Tim Denson and Mark Evans, who were elected this year to the District 5 and District 9 seats, respectively, will be sworn-in in January.
