Athens-Clarke County police on Wednesday announced they have made two more arrests in connection with a gang-related shooting last month in downtown Athens.
That brings to seven the number of gang members who have been arrested for the Aig. 25 shooting in an area concentrated with bars and people enjoying the city’s nightlife.
Police said that an altercation in the 300 block of East Clayton Street erupted into a shooting that injured a 17-year-old victim from Winterville.
The incident occurred in the same area where one year earlier there was a gang-related shooting that injured seven people.
A subsequent 17-count indictment charged four members of the Blood Trey Nine street gang for the shootout with members of the rival Roadrunners gang, which is associated with the Gangster Disciples, according to Clarke County Superior Court records. All but a suspect from Monroe are gang members from Athens.
Charged on Tuesday with violation of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, robbery, and two counts of aggravated assault were Kentrevis Daniel, 17, of Athens, and Dedrique Baughns, 18, of Laurie Drive.
Though police said Daniel was charged as an adult, the ACC Sheriff's office did not make public his mugshot or address.
All seven suspects are being detained without bail at the county jail.
The word, “Arrested” makes for a great headline, but if our DA won’t prosecute to the fullest (or at all) then this is all just smoke and mirrors and a waste of time.
and don’t forget, the DA has vowed to end the fictitious “pipeline from school to prison“ and the 17 year old won’t even have a case brought against him (like he’s even IN school, anyway!!!)
