An arrest has been made in connection with a shooting early Sunday morning at a party near the University of Georgia campus that critically injured one person.

Anthony Quinn Brown, 19, of Magnolia Street in Athens, was said by a police spokesman to have “arrived in a vehicle and began shooting” in the 100 block of Northview Driver shortly before 12:15 a.m.

Lt. Shaun Barnett said that one person was shot, and he was identified as 24-year-old Ja’ Vanni McDavid, who was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Barnett on Monday afternoon said he did not have an update concerning the victim‘s condition.

As the crime scene is located just across the street from the UGA campus and Foley Field baseball stadium, the university's police department issued an electronic “timely warning” to alert members of the university community.

Brown was taken into custody by county police Sunday afternoon, and he was charged with one count of aggravated assault.

According to Barnett, a motive for the shooting had yet to be established by detectives.

The investigation was ongoing, and police asked for anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Detective Paul Johnson at 762-400-7060 or paul.johnson@accgov.com.
