Athens attorney announces bid for county commission

Released today by the candidate’s campaign:

Longtime Athens attorney and community leader Edward D. “Ed” Tolley has announced his candidacy for the Athens-Clarke County Commission, District 7, which includes the Timothy Road corridor and Beechwood Hills neighborhoods.

A University of Georgia graduate and founding partner of Cook & Tolley, LLP, Tolley has practiced law in Athens for nearly 50 years. He has also previously served as President of the Clarke County Board of Education and Chair of the Georgia Judicial

Qualifications Commission, earning recognition across Georgia for his integrity, professionalism, and dedication to public service.

Running under the banner “Safe Athens. Livable Athens. United Athens.”, Tolley’s campaign focuses on pragmatic leadership and steady, solutions-driven representation.

“Athens has given me so much throughout my life and career,” Tolley said. “Now it’s my turn to give back in a new way — by serving District 7 with honesty,

accountability, and respect. Together, we can keep our neighborhoods safe, ensure Athens remains a livable community for every generation, and work to

unite people around shared goals rather than divisions.”

A lifelong resident of Athens who has always supported the nonpartisan nature of Commission elections, Tolley emphasized his priorities of public safety, responsible growth, and transparent local government that reflects the needs and values of residents in every corner of District 7.

“Local government should reflect the same values that have guided my life — integrity, fairness, and service to others,” Tolley said. “That’s how we build a stronger, more united Athens.”
