Athens-Clarke County promotes first female police lieutenant in 20 years

By Joe Johnson

Kattie Clark has earned a promotion in the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, becoming the ACCPD’s first female lieutenant in twenty years. Police Chief Jerry Saulters said Clark will lead the Outreach Services Unit in the Community Outreach Services Bureau.

Clark has been with the police department since 2009.

“Kattie has earned this promotion through her work ethic and commitment to serving our community,” Saulters said. “I look forward to her continued success at the ACCPD.”

During her 15 years on the police force Clark gained experience working in patrol, investigations, and, most recently, administration, where she served as a sergeant in the Records Unit.

She holds dual bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice and psychology from the University of Michigan and a master’s in public safety administration from Columbus State University.

In becoming a member of ACCPD’s command staff Clark follows a trail that had been blazed by now-retired female officers, Lt. Terrie Patterson and Capt. Melanie Rutledge.
