A Clarke County grand jury recently indicted an Athens man for an alleged drug-related murder earlier this year at a westside apartment complex.
Darrall Christopher Early, 22, is accused of fatally shooting 24-year-old Ramonte Harris on Feb. 2 outside the victim's home at Regency Park apartments on Sycamore Drive.
The grand jury charged Early with malice murder, two counts of felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a first-offender probationer, and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to the indictment that was filed Aug. 27 in Clarke County Superior Court.
Early also lived on Sycamore Drive, at the Cascades on the River apartments.
Athens-Clarke County Deputy Police Chief Jeff Clark said at the time of the fatal shooting that Early and Harris were arguing about drugs when the altercation escalated and resulted in Harris being shot.
Early, who was being held without bail at the Clarke County Jail is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 18.
