A 66-year-old man was severely injured last weekend by someone forced their into his daughter’s home in a westside Athens apartment complex.

The incident happened at about 1 a.m. Sunday on Weir Circle in Parkview Homes when the suspect showed up at the apartment demanding money while armed with a boxcutter, police said.

When the man said that he didn’t have any money the suspect forced his way in and rummaged through the home looking for money.

He cut up a couch in an apparent attempt to intimidate and when it didn’t work he cut the victim’s leg, causing a deep laceration about eight inches long, according to police.

The suspect then ran from the apartment apparently empty handed.

The victim called his Lyft-driver daughter who took him to the hospital.

Police said there’s a suspect named Mark who “spends a lot of time at the homeless camp off of James Road.”
