In the early morning of May 8th, Deandre and Jamarcus Grisson west to pick up their sister from her job at Pilgrim’s Pride.
When they got there Jamaya Grisson climbed into the car to join her brothers and Makai Tucker, her boyfriend who went along for the ride.
Jakel Arnold then arrived in a car with his cousin and upon getting out he tried talking to Jamaya, but she refused to speak with him.
When he persisted the brothers intervened and an argument broke out in which Arnold reportedly said something sexually abusive about their sister.
“Jamarcus then began telling (Arnold) not to talk about his sister like that,” an officer said in a police report. “They then began driving away when Mr. Arnold opened fire on the vehicle.”
Seeing that his siblings had been shot, Jamarcus drove to the hospital where 17-year-old Deandre died and Jamaya was treated for non-.life-threatening injuries.
Police arrested Arnold several hours later and charged him with murder and multiple counts of aggravated assault.
