Athens police seek entering auto suspect

A frame from surveillance camera footage of an attempt to illegally enter a car on Glenhaven Avenue

Athens-Clarke County police on Thursday asked for the public's assistance in identifying the male in this video https://www.facebook.com/accpolice/videos/2539062512820921/

The video captured a suspect attempting to enter a car parked at a Glenhaven residence the night of Aug. 19, but he apparently ran off upon realizing the car door was locked and then a motion sensor-activated light turned on, police said.

As is often the case with such criminals, police said they believed that this suspect has probably struck before and will again.

"It is very likely that he has committed other entering autos/attempts," Detective Nathaniel Franco said.

In releasing the video, police warned people to not leave valuables in your their vehicles overnight, especially handguns. Police asked that anyone who recognizes the person in the video or has information about the incident to contact Detective Franco at (706) 706-353-4218, Ext. 147 or nathaniel.franco@accgov.com
