An Athens middle school teacher has been arrested for an alleged assault in which he placed a 13-year-old boy in a chokehold
According to a police report, the alleged incident happened Nov. 30 at W.R. Coile Middle School where Brockton Carl Tatum "choked" the boy when breaking up a fight between him and another student.
A school resource officer indicated in the report that the alleged victim had no visible injuries, and the boy's grandmother wanted to press charges.
The incident reportedly had been witnessed by another teacher.
After an investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant against Tatum that charged him with aggravated assault.
Tatum surrendered himself Friday morning at the county jail and he was released that afternoon upon posting a $2,400 bond.
Teachers call the law and let the law officer handle the little wayward children. I admire your dedication to discipline but that is out in Clarke County.. Best do away with truancy laws as the parents or the children don’t care about learning or being a control education system. Don’t waste the time, money or resources such good teachers.
And I can NOT emphasize this enough to all teachers….do nothing. Stay out of it. Call on a radio or phone if you must, but nothing more. Also…and most importantly…leave. Change careers now.
I guess he was supposed to let the fight continue. Then he would be charged for not breaking it up. Do you wonder why good people don't much care to be teachers working for administrators and parents who won't allow them to control their students??
