An Athens man who was stopped by police for illegally having blue lights on his vehicle fiercely fought with officers when they were placing him under arrest.

Addarius Garrett, was driving a Hummer H2 on Lexington Road the night of June 14th when he was stopped by an officer because of the vehicle’s blue lights, which by law can only be used on official law enforcement and emergency vehicles.

The 21-year-old Danielsville Road resident was immediately confrontational, saying, “Why y’all always messing with me.”

Garrett had reportedly been stopped by police for the same blue lights on previous occasions.

While running a check on his driver’s license an officer spotted marijuana inside the Hummer, at which time Garrett was told to exit the vehicle.

He refused, claiming that he knew his rights, so officers pulled him out and the fight was on.

He reportedly grabbed one officer by his vest and pushed him, say, “Don’t fuckin’ touch me, bruh,” and the officer responded by taking Garrett to the ground.

A second officer joined in and after Garrett continued ignoring commands while fighting and reaching for his pockets and waistband , the officer pulled out his Taser and drive-stunned Garret into compliance,

Though handcuffed and being led to a police car for the ride to jail, Garrett wasn’t through fighting and he kicked one of the officers.

He was charged for the blue lights, as well as misdemeanor marijuana possession and felony obstruction of law enforcement.
