Body found in downtown Athens alley

By Joe Johnson

The body of an unidentified person was found Thursday afternoon in a downtown Athens alley.

According to Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson the body of a white male who appeared to be in his mid-20s was discovered at about 3:30 p.m. in a narrow alley between Woodford and Bar South on East Washington Street.

Wilson said there were no visible signs of foul play.

The body was a way up in the alley, not visible from the street, Wilson said, which is probably the reason it had been there for two to three days before accidentally being found by people posting flyers for an event.

The deceased person had no identifying documents with him, the coroner said.

The body was to be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Lab to determine the person’s identity and cause of death, according to Wilson.
