Both suspects in Clarke Central grad’s death charged with murder

By Joe Johnson Both suspects accused of murdering Clarke Central High School graduate Alexis Janae Crawford were in custody, Atlanta police said Saturday.

Police said they charged 21-year-old Jordyn Jones, who was Crawford's roommate, with malice murder.

Crawford, a student at Clark Atlanta University went missing from her off-campus apartment on Oct. 29.

Jones’ boyfriend, Barron Brantley, also 21, was also arrested and charged with malice murder.

The cause of death reportedly was determined to be from asphyxiation.

In a televised Friday news conference Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields said that one of the suspects, who she did not name, was the person who led police to where Crawford’s body was found in Exchange Park off Columbia Drive In DeKalb County.

“While a motive has not been clearly established” for Crawford’s death, the Atlanta police chief noted in her news conference that three days before Crawford disappeared, she filed a police report accusing her roommate’s boyfriend of sexually assaulting her in her apartment.

“This case has come to one of the saddest conclusions possible and has been absolutely heartbreaking,” Shields said at the news conference.
