The following was released by the Clarke County School District:
On Friday, Sept. 5, University of Georgia students who are part of the Dream On 3 national network surprised Cedar Shoals High School senior Donovan Collins with a customized VIP Georgia Football package, which included the opportunity to meet Coach Kirby Smart and the team, be on the sidelines for the Bulldogs' game against Austin Peay last weekend, and be recognized on the field.
Dream on 3 is a national nonprofit that works to make sports-themed "dreams" come true for children and young adults living with a life-altering condition, including those with mental health challenges and developmental disabilities. Donovan was a student ambassador and a standout athlete at Cedar Shoals with dreams of joining the military, but this was disrupted when he suffered a stroke, which has led to him battling multiple health problems, including paralysis on his right side, blindness in one eye, seizures, and other challenges.
Despite these challenges, Donovan has continued to excel as a student and is known for coming to school with determination and a smile. He was surprised last Friday at Cedar Shoals with a celebration that helped kick off his weekend of fun. He celebrated the surprise with his family, classmates, the Cedar Shoals band and cheerleaders, and the many CCSD teachers and support staff who have helped him overcome his obstacles and remain on his educational journey to success.
