The Athens-Clarke County Police Department was investigating a shooting that occurred late Friday afternoon at an eastside mobile home park.
The incident happened in a residence at Hallmark Estates where, police said, three people were shot, including an adult and two children, one of whom died.
The shooting reportedly happened at around 5:30 p.m. at the trailer park that's located off of Spring Valley Road,
Residents told Classic City News that dozens of police officers swarmed the neighborhood, with fire and EMS personnel also responding.
The residents said that the word on the street was that two children had been shot, and a law enforcement source confirmed that one of the children had died.
"My son is crying real bad about his friend. His friend's'little 3-year-old brother didn’t make it. I’m trying to comfort him and it’s so hard,"one woman said. "All I can do right now is cry with my child. He so hurt. Keep asking me to take him to the hospital to see his friend.I don't know if I should or not."
