In response to the recent tragedy at Apalachee High School, the City of Winder has made the decision to refocus its upcoming TGIFF event into a memorial gathering, titled A Light in the Dark, to honor the victims and provide the community with a space for reflection and support.
The memorial will take place this Friday, September 6, at Jug Tavern Park, located at 139 E Athens St, Winder, GA 30680. Community members are invited to begin gathering at 6 p.m., with the official ceremony starting at 6:30 p.m.
Mayor Terrell will welcome attendees, followed by additional remarks from U.S. Senators Raphael Warnock, Jon Ossoff, and U.S. Representative Mike Collins.
This event will be an opportunity for the Winder community to come together during a time of immense grief, and to provide comfort and solidarity to those affected.
“We are devastated by the events at Apalachee High School and feel it is important to offer a moment for our community to pause, reflect, and find strength in one another,” said Mayor Terrell. “A Light in the Dark will serve as a beacon of hope, honoring the lives of those lost and the resilience of our community.”
The City of Winder welcomes everyone to join this meaningful memorial.
