The Oglethorpe County Probate Court clerk was arrested this week following an investigation into the alleged theft of thousands of dollars from the court.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, 43-year-old Angel Bramlett of Winterville was arrested Nov. 2 on multiplr felony counts of theft by taking, computer trespass, and computer forgery.

The Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 27 requested the GBI’s Athens field office to probe discrepancies of money and fines being taken by the Probate Court.

“It was determined that since August of 2019 to October of 2021, several thousands of dollars in fines supposedly paid to Probate Court were missing,” the GBI said. “As a result of this investigation, Bramlett, who was employed at the time as the Oglethorpe County Probate Court Clerk, was arrested” and charged with 30 counts of theft by taking, 38 counts of computer trespass and 17 counts of computer forgery.”

Bramlett was subsequently terminated by the county.
