Released by the Georgia Department of Transportation:

Gainesville, GA – The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is pleased to announce the award of a construction contract to E.R. Snell Inc. for a critical safety improvement project at the intersection of SR 124 and CR 47/Old Hog Mountain Road in northeast Barrow County.

This project aims to enhance safety and reduce the frequency and severity of crashes at the intersection by constructing a single-lane roundabout. A Traffic Engineering (TE) study conducted in August 2017 identified key safety concerns and recommended the roundabout as the most effective solution for mitigating those issues.

The new roundabout will feature a geometry design to slow vehicle speeds and reduce conflict points, leading to fewer and less severe collisions. These improvements are expected to significantly benefit motorists and the surrounding community.

  • Contractor: E.R. Snell Inc.

  • Estimated Construction Cost: $2,786,283.90

  • Scheduled Completion Date: March 31, 2027 (weather permitting)

GDOT remains committed to improving safety and mobility across Georgia’s transportation network. We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation during construction and encourage all drivers to stay alert and follow posted signage when traveling through the work zone.
