By Joe Johnson

A former University of Georgia student has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the reported rape of a freshman in a UGA dorm room two years ago.

According to a plea agreement filed in Superior Court on February 12th, 20-year-old Theodore Bennett Angell pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated assault, sexual battery, and battery in return for dismissal of the rape charge.

According to court documents, Angell had choked, slapped and bit the 18-year-old victim during the sexual assault that occurred in September 2024 in Black-Diallo-Miller Hall.

Records indicate that the victim had red marks on her neck from being choked, marks on her buttocks from being slapped repeatedly, and a bite mark on her arm. She was unable to breathe while being choked, according to the records.

Angell reportedly now is a student at Kennesaw State University.

His plea agreement includes a suggested sentence of 4-6 months in a probation detention center and 10 years on probation.

Superior Court Judge Lawton Stephens has scheduled the sentencing hearing for March 25th.
