A gunman reportedly shot at an on occupied home and a car with an infant passenger Tuesday night in a northern Athens neighborhood.

No one was reported to have been injured, according to an Athens-Clarke County police report, but one bullet entered the house on Smokey Road, through a window in a room where a 66-year-old resident had been near the washing machine; another projectile entered the car through the roof, where a 21-year-old woman used herself to cover her year-old son to protect him from harm.

The shooting apparently was provoked by a minor fender-bender accident that occurred when a 24-year-old resident of the Smokey Road dwelling drove a black Acura off the property and into the path of speeding green Honda four-door sedan, according to the police report.

The Honda struck the side rear of the Acura, pushing it into a ditch, the report noted.

The shooting began when the Acura’s driver freed the car from the ditch and briefly got out before the other driver began shooting at him, according to the police report.

The other driver, who drove from the scene, reportedly was described as a black male with dreadlocks, and wearing shorts and a white tank top shirt.
