Merchandise valued at $16,000 reportedly was stolen from a boutique in downtown Athens that specializes in vintage designer clothing and accessories.

According to an Athens-Clarke County police report, a hammer apparently was used to break the front window of Angora Vintage on East Broad Street between the close of business Friday and Saturday morning.

A responding officer saw the broken head of a hammer inside the window, according to the report.

The owner responded to the store and identified several high-end items that were missing from the window display, including a Fendi purse, a Louis Vuitton purse and backpack, and a Chanel handbag, according to the report.

The replacement cost of the broken window is $748, the police report noted

Police said the hammer was placed into evidence, but no suspect fingerprints were obtained.

The responding officer wrote in his report that he would follow up by checking surveillance camera footage from neighboring businesses.
