Arson fire destroys house in Jackson County

By Joe Johnson

The cause of fire that destroyed a home this week in the Jackson County community of Jefferson has been ruled an arson, according to Georga Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King.

The fire reportedly occurred at 1180 Washington Street at about 8 p.m. Monday.

“The City of Jefferson Fire Department arrived on the scene Monday to find this 55-year-old, 1,000-square-foot home completely destroyed by fire,” King said. “According to the home’s owner, the house had been vacant and disconnected from utilities for several years.”

King’s State Fire Investigations Unit and the City of Jefferson Fire Department have an ongoing investigation into this fire.

Anyone with information about the fire can contact state fire investigators by calling a confidential tip line at (800) 282-5804.
