Athens man with stab wound in back shows up at hospital

By Joe Johnson

An Athens man arrived early Sunday morning at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center with a stab wound to his back, according to an Athens-Clarke County police report.

Officers responded to the hospital on an emergency room nurse's 5:23 a.m. report that the 24-year-old Virginia Avenue man was being treated for injuries from an aggravated assault, according to the report.

The man "would not cooperate and refused to give any details or information as to how he got stabbed, who stabbed him , and where it occurred," the report noted.

In addition to the stab wound, the man had a large bump on his forehead and dried blood under his nose, according to the report, which did not indicate how the man got to the Prince Avenue hospital.

The case was turned over to detectives in the Criminal Investigations Division.
