A 61-year-old woman was struck by gunfire over the weekend at an eastside apartment complex, according to an Athens-Clarke County police report.
The incident was reported at 11:25 p.m. Saturday when a resident of Clarke Gardens called 911 to say that she heard several gunshots.
After an officer arrived to investigate, the victim approached his patrol car and informed him that she had been shot, according to the report. The officer located a bullet wound on the Carriage Court resident’s right forearm, the report noted.
While another officer attended to the victim’s injury, the ed the officer first officer searched the area and located drops of blood in front of 207 Carriage Court, where the victim’s daughter approached the officer and told him that after being outside for a short period of time her mother came to her home to say that she’d been shot.
Bullet fragments were located near the front door of 215 Carriage Court, as well as a dent in concrete that apparently had been caused by a bullet, according to the report.
No shell casings were located.
Police said they were unable to get any information from the victim “due to the fact that she was intoxicated.”
Reports did not indicate if the woman was transported to the hospital.
There was no mention in reports of a possible reason for the shooting or any suspects.
The apartment complex that is located off of Barnett Shoals Road is where a 24-year-old pregnant mother was fatally shot by gunfire from a fight nearby and the complex has been investigated by police for gang activity.
