Jackson Co. man charged with murder for Rolling Ridge shooting

A Jackson County man on Friday was charged with murder for a fatal shooting that occurred last month at Rolling Ridge Apartments in northern Athens-Clarke County.

According to Athens-Clarke County police, Christopher Tyrone Rollins, 30, of Jefferson had already been in custody at the Clarke County Jail for an unrelated arrest when he was served with warrants charging him with the Dec. 29 alleged murder of 27-year-old Quamiek Malik Aziz of Athens.

Rollins was also charged with aggravated assault for allegedly shooting and wounding , 22, also of Athens during the same incident at the apartment complex off Kathwood Drive.

Rollins had been incarcerated at the county jail since Jan. 7, when he was booked in on a theft charge, according to the jail website.

In addition to malice and felony murder and aggravated assault, Rollins was charged in warrants with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

“The investigation was a collaborative effort among investigators from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, and the Clarke County Coroner’s Office.” ACCPD stated in a Friday afternoon media release.

Police have not disclosed a motive for the shootings.
