A Madison County man died Thursday morning after he was involved in a two-vehicle collision in eastern Athens-Clarke County.
According to Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson, Darrell Burnette, 77, of Comer was driving east on Lexington Road at about 8 a.m., when he began to make a left turn onto Robert Hardeman Road and drove into the path of a westbound vehicle driven by an Athens man.
Wilson said the vehicles collided virtually head-on.
Burnette was transported to the hospital where he died about three hours later, Wilson said.
The other driver was not seriously injured and was not transported to the hospital, according to the coroner.
Information about the collision was not immediately available from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.
