Two killed in separate Labor Day weekend incidents in Athens

As of Sunday night, two people had been killed on Athens roadways this Labor Day weekend.

According to Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson, 91-year-old Alice Paul was killed Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision on Epps Bridge Parkway at Timothy Road. She was returning from a pharmacy to her home on Fox Trace Road, a side street off Timothy Road, Wilson said.

On Sunday night, 54-year-old Donna McCune, also of Athens, was killed when struck by multiple vehicles on Commerce Road, Wilson said.

According to the coroner, McCune was staying at the Bulldog Inn, and she was struck by a vehicle as she was crossing Commerce Road to go to a convenience store across the street from the motel.

The n Athens-Clarke County Police Department‘s Traffic Unit responded to the scene and is actively investigating the crash.

The police asked that anyone who may have witnessed or have information about the incident to contact Traffic Unit Officer Zach Compton at (762) 400-7377.
