Two students were arrested Tuesday in connection with a gun that was found on the Winder-Barrow High School campus, according to the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.
According to sheriff’s Maj. Ryan Sears, the school’s resource officer received a tip at about 8:40 a.m. that a student on campus was in possession of a firearm.
The officer “made contact with the student and ultimately secured a firearm that was in the student’s possession without incident,” Sears said.
An investigation determined that the handgun was initially brought to school by a different student, he said.
Sears would not give the students's ages or genders, or say if the weapon was loaded.
“There is no evidence of any intent by either of the juveniles to use the gun on campus,” he said.
"I have released all the information we are going to at this time," he said.
Both students were charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds and transported to the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center.
