Athens-Clarke County police are investigating a University of Georgia student's report that she was raped early Wednesday by one of two men who she met downtown.

According to a police incident report, the 19-year-old student told officers she went downtown at about 9 p.m. and woke up in a hotel room at around 3 a.m. while being raped by a male who she did not know.

She was able to flee and call a friend, according to the report.

The report lists two suspects, a 28-year-old Florida man and a 24-year-old man with an address in New York City’s Greenwich Village.

The victim had been patronizing bars downtown when she met the suspects "and accompanied them to a local hotel, where the alleged assault occurred,” said Christopher Nichols, commanding officer of the Athens-Clarke County police Criminal Investigations Division.

The hotel is in the 500 block of West Broad Street, he said.

One of the suspects was located at the hotel, according to the incident report.

"Both suspects have been interviewed by police, and the case is still under investigation," Nichols said Wednesday afternoon.
