A year-old boy was rushed to the hospital last week after he drank bleach inside his westside Athens home.

The incident happened at about 6:15 p.m. on January 19 at Rocksprings Homes apartments when a 37-year-old woman found her infant son wandering around and drinking from a bottle of bleach, and she called 911.

Fire rescue personnel responded and provided treatment to the child prior to him being transported by EMS to the hospital.

The mother told police that she had thought the bleach bottle was empty and it had been among some trash in the living room that her teenage son was supposed to have taken out.
