Jax came home in Ila last weekend with a serious injury after having been shot in his throat.
Now his family is facing enormous financial difficulties as the 6-year-old German Shorthair Pointer recovers from lifesaving surgery he underwent at the University of Georgia’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
“Jax is currently stable at UGA but he is not doing good,” said his human companion and caretaker, Reagan Bosquet.
“He’s got severe trachea damage, and his trachea is so swollen he can only breathe thru the bullet wounds.,” she said, “They are about to preform a tracheostomy to put a temporary tube in but depending on the extent of his damage he could need a permanent tube, permanent feeding tube, life long care.
Bosquet said she is facing a hospital bill of between $6,000 and $8,000,
“But depending on how he does the next few days that number could go up.”
An Athens native and vet tech herself, Bosquet established a GoFundMe to raise money to pay those bills.
“Any money raised past what is needed for his UGA bills will go towards his extensive aftercare,” she said.
“Jax is the sweetest and goofiest boy you will ever meet. He absolutely did not deserve to be shot in the face. Anything will help but no matter what I will find a way because that is what he deserves.”
