The last remaining gangsters who had been sought on murder charges for the shooting death of a child was located and arrested in New York City, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department announced Friday afternoon.
Dakious Echols is one of four street gang members who police say are responsible for a March drive-by shooting at the Hallmark Estates trailer park that took the life of 3-year-old Kyron Zarco-Smith.
A teenage stepbrother of the child had been the intended target, but he escaped unharmed.
Echols was arrested in the NYC borough of Brooklyn during an operation that included personnel from ACCPD’s Criminal Investigation Division, the Middle Georgia FBI Safe Streets Task Force, and the FBI Metro New York Safe Streets Task Force.
Echols was charged in warrants with multiple counts of murder, aggravated assault, and violations of the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.
Also facing a federal charge for unlawful flight, he is awaiting extradition.
