Liquor looted from burglarized bar in downtown Athens

About 20 bottles of liquor were stolen last week in a smash-and grab burglary at Boars Head Lounge on East Washington Street.

The booze was taken from one of the establishment’s outdoor bars between 8 p.m. Friday and 4:30’a.m. Saturday, when someone kicked its door out of the frame.

The stolen liquor had an estimated value of $1,750.

A 59-year-old man from Winterville was identified as the suspected thief because he committed a similar crime two years ago, and he appears to be the person who appears in surveillance camera footage.
