Our investigators have successfully identified and detained a suspect in connection with the attempted kidnapping on Saturday, August 31st. Special thanks to Morgan County Investigator Sergeant Chase Young for his assistance, and to Macon-Bibb DCS for their cooperation in the arrest. This investigation remains ongoing.
Investigators charged Matthew Ronald Crawford, 41, of Macon with kidnapping and simple battery. The suspect is a registered sex offender out of Gwinnett County who currently lives in Bibb County.

We received a report of a possible attempted abduction of a teenage male juvenile in the area of Hwy. 441 and Cemetery Rd. in Bishop. The incident occurred around 1pm today, Saturday, August 31.
The suspect was described as: white male, mid 30s, pale complexion, heavy set, clean-shaven head or bald, no facial hair, wearing a yellow shirt, and gray ball cap.
The suspect was driving a newer model 4-door gray Toyota Tacoma with chrome wheels and sidesteps, pulling a 14’-16’ trailer that was black with a wooden floor. (attached pictures are not the actual suspect vehicle)
The victim advised he approached the suspect who was stopped on Cemetery Rd. at Hwy. 441. The suspect, who remained seated in the truck, asked the juvenile if he wanted to do a job to make some money. While the juvenile was talking to the suspect at the driver’s door, the suspect grabbed his arm. The juvenile freed himself and fled the area. The suspect was last seen traveling north on 441 towards Athens.
