An Athens man is facing an armed robbery charge for holding an up an Athens convenience store clerk while using a staple gun as his weapon.
According to court records, the incident happened in August at the Citgo Food Mart on Hawthorne Avenue where 45-year-old Arthur Russell Suber of Sycamore Drive went behind the counter and forced the clerk “upon the threat of death,” to open the cash register from which he then stole $700.
The 27-year-old clerk didn’t know what type of weapon had been pointed at him, but police determined from surveillance footage that it had been a staple gun.
Suber was arrested several days later and on October 7th a grand jury indicted him on charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault, and two counts of obstruction of law enforcement,
An arraignment is scheduled for December 16th.
