An Athens man’s car reportedly was shot up over the weekend while it was parked outside his home at an eastside apartment complex.
The 21-year-old victim reported to Athens-Clarke County police that on Saturday afternoon he retrieved his 2006 Ford Mustang from a repair shop and after purchasing gas for the car he drove straight home at Fourth Street Village.
The man said that on Sunday afternoon he noticed bullet holes inside the car, according to a police incident report that noted a responding officer counted five bullet holes on the vehicle’s exterior.
The car’s owner told police he was the only one who drives it, and that he had not had any altercations or had a feud with anyone.
Police said the gunshot damage might be related to a 911 call early Sunday morning that reported gunfire in the area of Fourth Street Village.
The responding officer located at the scene a single bullet cartridge case and one projectile, according to the report, which noted that the officer was unable to find any surveillance cameras that might have recorded the shooting.
