A man said he was stabbed last Friday night in downtown Athens.

The incident was reported from the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Winder, where the 29-year-old victim lives.

According to the report made by the officer who interviewed him, Joseph Persaud had been somewhere in the city’s bar district, where the last thing he remembered doing “was taking a shot standing on a wooden table when he was struck in the head and lost consciousness.”

He told the officer that he came to on the sidewalk outside of Toppers International Show Bar on Jackson Street and called his mother who picked him up to drive him home.

It was during the drive to Winder that Persaud realized that pain in his shoulder was “from multiple stab wounds and not just landing on it” and his mother took him to the hospital.

The police officer saw that the man had stab wounds behind his left ear, his left shoulder, and collar bone.

Persaud said he likely had been in Toppers that night but he wasn’t sure if that’s where stabbing occurred.

The officer’s report noted that although Persaud was intoxicated when interviewed he seemed “extremely coherent and aware.”
