Occupants of a passenger car escaped injury Thursday afternoon when a train crashed into their vehicle at a Barrow County railroad crossing.

The incident happened at a CSX Railroad crossing at Harold Day Road in the Russell community just outside of Winder.

“A motorist was attempting to cross the tracks and did not notice the approaching train,” said Sgt, Domonic Smith of the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.

“Although the train conductor was reportedly sounding the horn, the motorist did not hear it,” Smith said.

No injuries were reported and the incident is being investigated by CSX.
