A long serving veteran Oconee County sheriff’s deputy died on Friday, reportedly from injuries sustained in an off-duty accident at his home.
For 21 years Lt. Scott Underwood served the county in which he was born and raised. His final assignment was serving as a shift commander.
“He had genuine passion for his work in law enforcement and was beloved by all who had the privilege to work with him,” the sheriff’s office said in a post on its Facebook page.
According to emergency first responders, Underwood was fatally injured when his lawnmower overturned on him at his property in the county’s Farmington community.
“Lt. Underwood was a devoted husband and father of two teenage sons.,” said the Facebook post. “Please keep his family and his Sheriff’s Office family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time as we grieve our tremendous loss and say goodbye to our friend and brother.”
Awful. Shocking.
That is awful! Praying for all who loved him; especially his wife and sons
