An Athens man was crossing Danielsville Road Wednesday evening when he was struck and fatally injured by a car, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.
Police said that 78-year-old Jewell Jarrells was crossing the road near Fernwood Court and walking toward towards J.J. Harris Elementary School at about 6:26 p.m. when he was struck by a northbound 2013 Chrysler 200 being driven by Monica Barnes, 55, of Athens.
The motorist is was not immediately charged, but police said the incident was under active investigation.

Police noted that the incident involved the 22st traffic fatality in the county in 2023.
Oh, according to how we were treated in Winterville it needs a four way stop or a stop light. Which would be insane.
What it really needs is for pedestrians follow one rule: "Don't be stupid."
A rule which applies to everyone all the time.
I guess that spot needs a crosswalk.
