The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is investigating as a homicide the death of man who was found injured near an eastside intersection.

Santinio Coleman, 48, died at the hospital after he was found Saturday morning with unspecified injuries on the Trail Creek trail near Oak Ridge Avenue and Vine Street.

Police are not saying what type of injuries Coleman suffered or releasing any further information about his death.

“This is an active investigation, and to protect the integrity of the case, detectives have nothing further to share at this time.”ACCPD spokesman Geof Gilland said.

ACCPD asked for anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Bradshaw at 762-400-7323 or Christina.Bradshaw@accgov.com

Whether this is relevant is unknown at this time:

At 9:20 a.m. today, Classic City News asked the police department about information it received about someone being attacked by multiple people with a hammer, and subsequently dying from their injuries. We asked about information what we heard about the victim possibly having been attacked because of their gender identity.

Nearly 7 hours later, at 4:06p.m., CCN received a press release from ACCPD concerning the Santonio Coleman homicide investigation.

Anyone who has information regarding the motive for this crime is encouraged to contact Classic City News at joejohnson8108@gmail.com
