Athens Clarke County police are investigating a stabbing that occurred Saturday at an eastside homeless camp.
The camp reportedly is located on county parkland off Willow Street, near the North Oconee River and across from the Bigger Vision homeless shelter on North Avenue.
According to Lt Shaun Barnet, ACCPD's public information officer, two men who knew each other got into an argument that escalated into a physical altercation.
" During the course of the altercation, the victim was stabbed in the neck," Barnett said, and the victim was transported to a local hospital by EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.
"The suspect was gone prior to officers arrival," the officer said.
Police sources said investigators subsequently identified a suspect and obtained warrants, but an arrest had not been made as of 5:30 p.m.
