Athens-Clarke County police have released the identities of the victims of a double shooting that occurred Monday in the Stonehenge neighborhood off Old Monroe Road in the county’s west side.

Killed in the shooting was 16-year-old Ashawn Adams of Athens, and 21-year-old Casey Parten of Flowery Branch remained hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.

A third person involved in the fatal altercation, 24-year-old Tyler Parten of Flowery Branch, was uninjured, police said.

Police responded to the reported shooting at about 5:25 p.m. Monday and located Adams and Casey Parten with gunshot wounds in the 300 block of Marlborough Downs Road, surrounded by a group of people.

Adams was pronounced deceased at the scene and Parten was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A police report indicated that two guns were recovered at the scene.

“At this time, detectives are not releasing the circumstances surrounding the incident to protect the integrity of the investigation, nor are they releasing a motive, said ACCPD Public Information Assistant Geof Gilland.
