Rescue operation underway on Atlanta Highway

County emergency officials are asking motorists to avoid the area of Atlanta Highway at the Athens Perimeter interchange where a rescue operation is wrapping up.

“We have had a lengthy extrication of a person stuck inside a piece of construction equipment,” said fire department Captain Kevin Kearney.
