By Joe Johnson Firefighters responded to three house fires Saturday night and early Sunday morning. No residents or firefighters were injured. The first fire was on McMinley Drive and was small enough that firefighters were able to put it out with a pressurized water can. The second, on Winterville Road was more involved and fire suppression crews went into the dwelling to extinguish the flames and also rescue a cat. The third fire was Sunday morning at a house on Kings Road

Two of the victims were at at the self checkout station when the car plowed into the building, They were transported by ambulance with non life-threatening injuries to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.

By Joe Johnson A home was damaged by fire Friday at Winter Grove Mobile Home Park on Winterville Road. Two people were home at the time but they got of their trailer without being injured, said county Fire Marshal Kevin Kearney. He said the residents have been temporarily displaced due to their home being seriously damaged. Kearney sent investigators to the scene to conduct a cause and origin analysis.
