Resident overcome by gas in Athens public housing

A resident of Broadacres Homes was hospitalized Saturday morning after she was overcome by natural gas in her apartment.

The 40-year-old woman was found unconscious Saturday morning on her bed in the apartment on Broadacres Court by a friend who was checking on her. The woman’s right eye and lips were swollen and her friend had smelled gas upon her arrival.

When police arrived the woman had come to but was unable to remember what happened.

It was noted in a police report that the oven had been pulled away from the wall and items were strewn about the kitchen floor.

The woman was transported by ambulance to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.
