Riverbend Parkway apartments damaged by weekend fire

The Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services Department posted the following tonight on its Facebook page

This past weekend, at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, July, 27th, 2025, B-shift crews responded to a structure fire at an apartment complex on Riverbend Parkway. First on scene, Engine 27 arrived to heavy fire conditions on the second floor and immediately began an aggressive interior attack on the main body of fire. Engine 23 and Ladder 343 arrived next. Engine 23 provided positive water to Engine 27 and then assisted 27’s crew with fire control. Ladder 343 assessed the rear of the building and then initiated a fire attack and primary search in the right-adjacent unit where fire had extended. Engine 21 and 26 battled additional fire in left-adjacent units. Rescue 4 completed a primary search and then assisted Hazmat 1 with fire attack in a left-adjacent unit. Ladder 7 set up their ladder and assisted with pump operations and hose management. Crews continued fighting the fire until it was completely extinguished and all areas had been searched.

Our firefighters did great work by making a successful stop on this difficult fire. Thanks to our firefighters’ efficient and coordinated efforts this destructive fire did not cause further damage. Our crews were even able to save a master’s student’s hard work by locating and saving the student’s thumb drive from the fire!

Our hearts go out to all who were affected by this fire. We are grateful to report that all residents made it safely out of the building.

The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation.
