Science fact of the day: Hummingbirds can’t walk

Because they evolved for speed, hummingbirds can’t walk or hop like other birds — their feet are too small and lightweight to support them in doing so.

However, they use their feet to grip perches, clean their feathers, and sometimes to perform a sideways “scooching” motion.
